HOW YOU CAN HELP
ICAN operates a Drop-In Center to meet a variety of client needs. In FY 2007 clients made 5,594 visits. The Drop-In Center serves as a meeting and socializing area. It has a laundry room, where clients do laundry for 25¢ per load. Laundry is free for persons without income. A computer workstation is available for clients’ use to search for jobs, find apartments or learn new skills.
ICAN accepts donations of usable household goods and furniture to help homeless persons establish themselves in permanent housing. Clients are eligible for bus passes, small grants for job related expenses or food vouchers.
Like any non-profit demand for ICAN's services continually exceed our ability to meet it. Cash donations to ICAN go into a client care account. Funds are used ONLY for the direct benefit of consumers. These funds may help a homeless person stay in a warm place on a cold night, or it may provide a security deposit for an apartment lease.
ICAN also encourages employment, and uses client care funds to purchase work-related items, like alarm clocks, steel-toed shoes and bus passes.
Items Needed Immediately! These items are either depleted or nearly so….
- Blankets
- Sheets (single size)
- Pillows
- Dishes
- Pots and Pans
- Bath towels
- Can openers to give out with canned food
Please donate any usable sofas, lamps, single bed frames, and kitchen sets. ICAN's clients often work hard to save money for an apartment, but have no funds to acquire even the most basic items. You can help with your donation of furniture or funds. To stretch furniture funds ICAN issues vouchers for Goodwill and other salvage outlets.
Any donation to ICAN is tax-deductible. Donors receive a thank you letter documenting the donation for tax purposes.
